A modern tale of fortune-hunting in the world of oil rigs in West Texas. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will be the middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job involves negotiating and finalizing agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Like a construction foreman, they build roads, workers’ housing (man camp), oversee the installation of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and facilitator. Mentioned in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated 8.5-9. If not for the sassy and overtly sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are simply annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. I’m from far West Texas myself. I kind of get where Sheridan is coming from, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Plus the writing and acting are great. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she could get rid of the very uncomfortable inter-family horniness. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and for the most part an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable show.
